From IT Desk in Moscow to Yoga Mat in Pune: Guzel’s Journey

From IT Desk in Moscow to Yoga Mat in Pune: Guzel's Journey

For Guzel from Moscow, Russia, the journey to India was not about sightseeing or tourism—it was about seeking authentic, traditional yoga at its source. While many come to India for a brief spiritual retreat, she came with a clear intention: to study, to understand, and to carry the wisdom of yoga back home.

Working full-time in an IT firm and being a responsible family member, her life was already full—deadlines, meetings, home responsibilities, and social commitments. Yet something inside her kept asking:

“Is this all there is? Or can I find a way to live more meaningfully, and help others do the same?”

That inner call led her to Swasti Yoga Center in Pune.

She began with the YCB–AYUSH Level 1 Yoga Protocol Instructor course—a government-recognized, structured program that blends traditional yoga practice with modern educational standards. Completing this wasn’t the end; it was the beginning. Guzel chose to continue with Level 2 Yoga Wellness Instructor, deepening her knowledge so she could confidently share yoga in Russia through classes, workshops, workplace wellness, and community outreach.

To her, this wasn’t just another qualification. She calls it “the greatest investment of my life”—not in money, but in health, clarity, and purpose.

“I Have Kids, Housework, Office… When Will I Join?” – Guzel’s Message to Busy Women

Many women, in India and worldwide, feel a strong desire to learn yoga deeply, but reality looks like this:

  • Early morning: preparing kids’ tiffin and getting them ready for school
  • Daytime: office work, client calls, deadlines
  • Evening: cooking, laundry, homework, family responsibilities
  • Night: exhaustion—and the thought, “I’ll join a course later, when I have time…”

Days become months. Months become years. The dream keeps getting postponed.

Guzel deeply understands this cycle. She has lived it. Yet she made a different choice: instead of waiting for the “perfect time,” she created time.

Here are some ways she managed it, which can inspire other women:

1. Small Consistent Slots, Not Big Perfect Blocks
She didn’t wait for 2–3 free hours. She started with 30–45 minutes a day, early morning or late evening, when the house was relatively quiet. Over time, this became a non-negotiable part of her routine—just like eating or sleeping.

2. Clear Communication with Family
She explained to her family that the course was not a hobby, but an important step for her health, mental balance, and future career. Slowly, they began respecting her study and practice time, and even feeling proud of her dedication.

3. Using Weekends Wisely
Weekends were not just for chores and rest. She reserved specific hours for live classes, assignments, and self-practice. By treating her yoga course like professional training, she stayed committed despite a busy schedule.

4. Combining Learning with Living
Instead of separating “course” and “life,” she started practicing what she learned in daily life—breathing techniques while stressed at work, simple stretches at her desk, mindful routines at home. This made yoga a living experience, not just an academic one.

For Guzel, the biggest shift happened when she realized:

“If I keep waiting for the right time, I will never start. Yoga is what gives me the strength to handle everything else.”

Her message to mothers, homemakers, and working professionals is clear: you don’t need a perfect life to start yoga education—you need a decision.

Why Guzel Believes Indian Government-Backed Certification Is the Gold Standard

Many Indian students ask a common question:

“Is this certification really international? Is it valid outside India?”

As a Russian professional, Guzel has a unique perspective. She has seen how people abroad look at Indian yoga education. Her conviction is strong:

  • India is the birthplace of yoga.
  • Government-backed, standardized systems—like YCB–AYUSH certification—represent the highest level of authenticity and rigor in yoga training.

She encourages Indian students to trust their own system more than marketing-heavy private alliances that give certificates without proper exams or assessment. Her reasoning:

1. Standardized Assessment vs. Just Pay-and-Print Certificates
Government-backed certification involves structured exams, practical evaluation, and clear competency requirements. This protects the quality of yoga teaching and ensures that certified instructors truly know what they are doing.

2. Alignment with ISO-Like Quality Principles
When a yoga center follows standardized educational frameworks and quality norms, the training becomes reliable, transparent, and comparable internationally. This builds trust in employers, students, and institutions across borders.

3. Global Respect for Government-Linked Credentials
Outside India, many wellness centers, schools, and organizations value official, government-related certifications more than generic private labels. For Guzel, having YCB–AYUSH credentials adds weight and credibility when she introduces herself as a yoga professional in Russia.

Her message to Indian students who doubt the value of these certifications is heartfelt:

“As a Russian, I want Indian people to believe in their own system. You have the highest level of yoga certification in the world. Be proud of it.”

From IT Professional to Yoga Ambassador

Guzel’s journey shows that yoga and a corporate career are not opposites—they can support each other. While working in IT, she:

  • Completed Level 1 Yoga Protocol Instructor
  • Continued to Level 2 Yoga Wellness Instructor
  • Supported International Yoga Day celebrations in her company, sharing yoga with colleagues
  • Began designing workplace wellness initiatives—short yoga breaks, stress-management sessions, and simple routines for office workers

This allowed her to:

  • Improve her own mental clarity and resilience at work
  • Become a resource person for wellbeing in her organization
  • Build a parallel identity—not just an IT employee, but a yoga educator and wellness ambassador

Her long-term mission is to bring authentic Indian yoga education to Russia—not through quick fixes or commercialized formats, but through structured training, authentic teaching, and community-building.

Yoga From India to Russia—and Beyond

At Swasti Yoga Center, students from more than 35 countries study traditional yoga through structured, government-recognized programs taught by experienced faculty—including medical doctors and YCB lead examiners. Many, like Guzel, carry this knowledge back to their home countries and become bridges between India and the world.

For Guzel, yoga is no longer just a personal practice; it is:

  • A career path
  • A tool for community wellbeing
  • A way to connect Russia and India through shared wisdom

She believes that her greatest investment was not in a gadget, a degree, or a vacation—it was in authentic yoga education that will serve her for a lifetime, and benefit hundreds of people she teaches.

If you are a mother, a working professional, or someone who keeps saying, “I’ll join when I have more time,” what is one small change you could make this week to create space—however tiny—for serious yoga learning in your daily life?
